Five Things to Know on Jan. 25: ‘Superfans’ Get in Free at Basketball Game

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Friday, Jan. 24. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham:

1. Cold Again: The forecast for temperatures on Friday call for it to be slightly “warmer,” with the temperature getting into the low 20s. The sky will be mostly cloudy and the west wind may gust to 24 miles per hour, creating wind chill factors as low as -6 degrees.

2. Pre-K: For parents that are interested in sending their child to Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District’s Pre-K next year at Winthrop Elementary School, there’s an open house on Friday. Parents can stop in and meet the teachers and ask questions from 9-10 a.m.

3. MMA: The Massachusetts Municipal Association, a nonprofit association that works on behalf of cities and town, is hosting its annual conference on Friday and Saturday at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. Gov. Deval Patrick will address the group this morning and Lt. Gov. Tim Murray is scheduled to speak on Friday evening.

4. Basketball: All Hamilton-Wenham Youth Basketball Players will be treated to a pizza party before Friday’s nights Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School girls basketball game versus Ipswich. Then, if they are wearing their “Superfan” T-shirt they will get in free. At halftime, the third and fourth grade girls recreation players will scrimmage.

5. Sweeney Todd: “Sweeney Todd” opens at Gordon College on Friday night, with a show at 7 p.m. in the Barrington Center for the Arts. Performances are also scheduled for Saturday and then Monday through Saturday, all at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for students.
