Five Things to Know on Jan. 22: Technology Night at the Middle School

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Tuesday, Jan. 22. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 

1. Clouds: Clouds are forecast to stick around all day and temperatures will stay in the upper 20s on Tuesday. The wind will blow out of the northwest with gusts up to 25 miles per hour.

2. Unemployment: Tuesday we will find out how many people in the two towns are without a job in our ongoing economic slump. The state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development will release town-by-town unemployment data for December. Last month, the statewide unemployment rate was 6.7 percent, up 1 percent from a month earlier.

3. Technology Night: Parents of Miles River Middle School students are invited to the school on Tuesday night to learn more about the technology students are using in the classroom. The event runs from 6-7 p.m. and will include teachers demonstrating the new instructional tools that use technology.

4. Finance Reports: Local candidates are facing a Tuesday deadline to submit 2012 campaign finance reports to the state Office of Campaign and Political Finance. Staff from the office will be available until 9 p.m. by phone to answer questions.

5. Wenham Selectmen: The Wenham Board of Selectmen meets on Tuesday night at Wenham Town Hall at 7 p.m. The board is anticipated to get a final report and recommendations from the Fire Study Committee and get a report from the Town Government Study Committee.
