First Plowable Snow Expected Saturday Night

The first significant accumulation of snow of the winter is expected on Saturday afternoon and evening, with at least a few inches expected in Hamilton and Wenham.

The snow is expected to begin early Saturday afternoon and last through Sunday morning.

A winter storm warning was issued early Saturday morning by the National Weather Service for noon Saturday through 7 a.m. on Sunday.

The heaviest snowfall is expected between 5 p.m. on Saturday through 1 a.m. on Sunday. The storm will, of course, making driving difficult and reduce visibility.

Travel will be slow at best on well treated surfaces and quite difficult on any unplowed or untreated surfaces,” the weather service said.

Last year, Hamilton officials changed the winter parking rules to allow overnight on-street parking during the winter unless a parking ban is enacted. If one is put in place on Saturday night, residents will be notified via the Connect-CTY system.

In Wenham, overnight on-street parking is banned all winter.

The storm is expected to drop four to eight inches, the weather service said.

The proximity to the coast and Cape Ann may keep snowfall totals down in both towns, the weather service said.

“Snow will mix with rain at times along the eastern Massachusetts coastline,” the weather service said. “Therefore highest snow amounts will likely occur across MetroWest including the Route 128 and Interstate 495 corridors of eastern Massachusetts.
