Tierney Announces Affordable Care Act Extension to Help MA Small Businesses

Congressman John F. Tierney today announced that the Department of Health and Human Services has granted the Commonwealth of Massachusetts a one year extension of the three year transition period provided to small group market insurers in Massachusetts. Further, the Administration has also agreed to continue evaluating the issue to determine if an additional extension is needed.

“It is imperative that the Affordable Care Act works for Massachusetts families and small businesses. To that end, I have been pressing the Obama Administration to address several concerns Massachusetts small business have shared regarding the Affordable Care Act’s effect on them. Today’s good news is an example of how we should be working to make helpful, responsible adjustments to the law as opposed mindlessly attempting to repeal it as the GOP-led Congress has done over 50 times,” said Congressman John Tierney.

“I want to thank Congressman Tierney for his relentless work to help Massachusetts small businesses with Obamacare. Nearly a year ago, Congressman Tierney organized meetings that allowed local small business owners to speak directly with senior Obama Administration officials about the dire need for this extension. Since then, Congressman Tierney has consistently stood up for small businesses and has not shied away from advocating for changes to the Affordable Care Act that are in the best interest of Massachusetts small businesses. Congressman Tierney has been a great partner in this effort, and I look forward to continuing to work with him on other important issues to help and support small businesses in the North Shore,” said Bob Bradford, President of the North Shore Chamber of Commerce.
