The North of Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau Seeks Sales Manager

The North of Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau, a private, non-profit, member-based organization charged with promoting the 34 cities and towns of Essex County, Massachusetts as a travel destination is now accepting applications for the position of Sales Manager. The North of Boston CVB works with and under the direction of the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism and is one of 16 Regional Tourism Councils in the state.  Please visit our website at www.northofboston.org for additional information.

 

This position reports to the Executive Director and job responsibilities include:

  • Membership recruitment and retention.
  • Coordinating and implementing Familiarization Tours throughout the region. * Fam Tours, also called fams or familiarization tours, are organized trips for travel agents, tour operators, tour wholesalers or other members of the travel trade for the purpose of educating and familiarizing them with tourism destinations. By seeing the destinations where they are sending travelers, the travel trade is better prepared to answer customer questions and promote travel to the location.
  • Trade show coordination and/or representation. (Hartford Courant Sun & Ski Travel Show, American Bus Association, Discover New England, National Tour Association, US Travel IPW).
  • Coordinating and implementing cooperative advertising opportunities. Sales efforts include Destination Planner ad sales, Visitor Guide ad sales, and a variety of appropriate media throughout the year (print, digital, admail, special promotions).
  • Coordinating and facilitating North of Boston Monthly Sales Group Meetings.
  • Maintaining and developing membership database.
  • Monitor and prepare reports and forecasts monthly, quarterly, and annually.

 

Qualifications/ Required Skills:

  • Familiarity with Essex County, Massachusetts
  • Reliable vehicle and willingness to travel.
  • A minimum of 5 years sales experience.
  • Excel at prospecting and researching new and existing tourism-based and related businesses.
  • Strong track record of over achievement against assigned quota.
  • Proven track record educating and selling multiple products at various levels.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and closing skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and database management
  • Experience in a destination marketing sales environment a plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent in Business, Marketing a plus.

 

This is a 25+ hour per week position offering flexibility and accountability and is available immediately. Essex County Tourism Statistics

Essex County ranked fifth in the state with $752.7 million in domestic travel spending in 2011, a 9.0 percent increase from 2010. Domestic traveler spending in Essex County generated $168.0 million payroll income and 6,200 jobs during 2011, generating $38.8 million in state tax receipts and $19.3 million in local tax receipts.
