What You Need to Know About the Topsfield Fair: Tuesday, Oct. 2

Here's a look at some of the special things you will find at the Topsfield Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 2. Check for this daily feature here on Hamilton-Wenham Patch through the fair's closing day on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 8.

Tuesday, Oct. 2 is the fifth day of the 2012 Topsfield Fair, the oldest fair in the country. Gates open at 10 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. The  agricultural buildings close at 10 p.m.

Monday is Military Day. Admission is free for all active military personnel, along with their immediate family members.

There's also a midway ride special on Tuesday, where you get unlimited rides for $20 on all rides except the bumper cars from 5-11 p.m.

The first of several midweek evening parades through the fairgrounds happens on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The winner of the Pillsbury Pie Crust Pie Baking Championship contest will be announced at 9 p.m. in Coolidge Hall.

The U.S. Marine Corps Band continues with its 2012 performances at the Topsfield Fair with concerts at 2 and 7 p.m. in the grandstand. Frankie Avalon then visits the grandstand on Wednesday with a free show at 7 p.m.

The day starts at 10:30 a.m. in the grandstand with a "Meet Beulah!" event in the grandstand - Beulah is an elephant.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police also continue their performances, presenting their musical ride at 6 p.m. in the arena.

Admission is weekday pricing - $11 for adults on Tuesday. Children under eight are free with a paying adult. Parking is $10 per car.
