What You Need to Know About the Topsfield Fair: Friday, Sept. 28

Here's a look at some of the special things you will find at the Topsfield Fair on Friday, Sept. 28 - opening day. Check for this daily feature here on Hamilton-Wenham Patch through the fair's closing day on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 8.

Friday, Sept. 28 is opening day at the Topsfield Fair, the oldest fair in the country. The fair opens at 1 p.m. and closes at 11 p.m. The  agricultural buildings close at 10 p.m.

The New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off is planned for Friday afternoon and evening in the arena, running from about 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A midway special runs all day, with $20 getting you unlimited midway rides (except the bumper cars) from 1-11 p.m.

There will be a free Dock Dogs shows in the Grandstand at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8 p.m.

Burnham performs live on the Trianon Stage at 6 p.m. "Awesome Express" also performs on the Trianon Stage at 8:30 p.m.

Admission is $11 for adults on Friday. Children under eight are free with a paying adult. Parking is $10 per car.

First thing on Saturday, do not forget the opening parade. It starts at Topsfield Common and makes its way down Main Street and Maple Street into the Fairgrounds. Saturday will also be Girl Scout Day, honoring the 100th year of Girl Scouts. All girls in uniform will get in free along with one parent.
