A Hamilton man said his social media network delivered for him on Friday by having a martini ready for him when he saddled up to the bar at .
Will Burns, chief executive officer at advertising company Ideasicle, on Friday : “I'd like the following drink prepared, already on the bar, and ready for me at exactly 5:00: Plymouth martini, up, olive, dry as a bone, shaken like your life depends on it. I'll be wearing the "Nothing is unthinkable" T-shirt in my profile pic. Good luck. Oh, and you can keep the change."
And that is what happened, Burns said on Saturday morning.
“The bartender (Matt Blanchard) heard about my post from a friend of his who took a picture of her screen and then texted that picture to him,” Burns said.
Burns said he walked in at exactly 5 p.m. and Blanchard was pouring the martini.
“I approached the bar and Matt extended his hand and said, ‘Well played, sir,’” Burns said. “We shook hands and had a laugh over the whole thing; He took the twenty and said, ‘This is going on the wall.’”
Blanchard kept the change, Burns added.
“To me, being in the advertising business with Ideasicle, this little experiment tells me that a person's social media network is about more than superficial banter,” Burns said. “It can get things done.”
Burns said he posted the challenge, not knowing what to expect. It kept up his tradition of martini-themed Facebook posts on Fridays.
“I'm told people look forward to them,” he said. “So this stunt drafted off that theme and, I suppose, took it to a new level.”
He’s now wondering what’s next. Burns said he’s exploring taking the idea to a new city while traveling and “see how far my network of Facebook friends stretches.”
