Nine Questions and Answers About Thursday Night's 'Christmas in the Village Marketplace'

The biggest event of the shopping season is Thursday night in Hamilton and Wenham, with live holiday music, store specials and an appearance from Santa.

The second annual is happening on Thursday night. Here’s a quick wrap-up of some of the things you’ll want to know before you head out.

When is the Christmas in the Village Marketplace?

Thursday, Dec. 8 from 5-8 p.m.

Where it is happening?

In the combined Hamilton and Wenham downtown (300 at Main, Bay Road and Railroad Avenue) plus Wenham Village on Main Street.

How long has the Christmas in the Village Marketplace event being happening?

This is the second year it has happened. It was by the newly formed Hamilton-Wenham Merchants Association.

What’s going to be happening out of the ordinary?

There will be live music, sales, specials and giveaways, plus food and drinks at many shops and stores. The Solstice singers will also be strolling around and performing and other musicians will be set up and performing.

How can I get between downtown Hamilton and downtown Wenham?

A Council on Aging van will be giving shoppers rides between downtown Hamilton and downtown Wenham.

What are thee “Christmas cards” that I hear businesses will be handing out?

Shoppers will be given a pre-printed card that they can take with them as they shop. At each business, shoppers will get it initialed. At the end of the evening, shoppers can leave the card at any business. It will be entered into a raffle to win a gift basket of merchandise and gift certificates from local businesses. The cards can be initialed through the weekend and the winner selected at the end of the weekend.

Will Santa be there?

Yes, Santa Claus is scheduled to be part of the event. Santa’s mailbox will also be set up at 300 at Main, where children can drop off their letter to Santa.

What kind of food will be available?

Most businesses will have food and drink spreads set up. Show up with an empty stomach, recommends Kathie Gauthier, owner of Zazou’s and one of the event organizers.

For example, at there will be a Mexican spread, at there will be chocolate-covered strawberries, Henderson’s gift shop with have seafood, will have chips and dip, and will have miniature meat balls and spaghetti.

Will some stores be having sales?

Yes, some stores will be having sales and specials.
