More Unemployed in Wenham Than State Average, Fewer in Hamilton

More people were unemployed in both Hamilton and Wenham in June than a month earlier.

More Wenham residents were unemployed in June than the state average, while the unemployment rate in Hamilton was below the state average, according to figures released on Tuesday by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

In Wenham, the unemployment rate is 8.6 percent in June, above the 7.4 percent statewide average.

In Hamilton, the unemployment rate went up a percentage point in a month but still remained below the state average. The June unemployment rate was 6.1 percent in Hamilton, up from 5 percent in May. Unemployment remains higher in both towns versus a year ago, when the rate was 4.9 percent in Hamilton and 8.2 percent in Wenham.

In Hamilton, There are 230 people reporting they were out of work out of a workforce of 3,792 in June, according to the state government data. In May, 188 residents were out of work, the state said.

In Wenham, 168 people reported they were out of work out of a workforce of 1,963 in June, according to the state government data. In May, 135 residents were out of work, the state said.
