Five Things to Know on Oct. 5: Photo Contest Deadline

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Friday, Oct. 5. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham:

1. Sun: At some point on Friday, the sun is expected to come out. After some dreary day, it will be welcomed. There will be a foggy start to the day but temperatures will eventually make it into the mid-70s.

2. Homecoming: It is Homecoming weekend at Gordon College in Wenham. Events will include a “Gordon’s Got Talent” contest on Friday night and a 5K run on Saturday.

3. Stop and Shop: The A+ School Rewards Program starts on Friday at the Stop and Shop grocery store chain, including the location in North Beverly. The program will donate up to $2.5 million to schools this year. All you have to do is go to the Stop and Shop website and designate your chosen school, up to two schools. The program runs through March 28.

4. Yard Sales: Are you hosting a yard sale this weekend? Or maybe you are headed out to shop at some yard sales? Either way, we have what you are looking for here on Hamilton-Wenham Patch. Local yard sales are listed in our events calendar and you can quickly and easily add your yard sale directly to the list and get out the word.

5. Salem Five Photo Contest: Friday is the final chance to enter Salem Five’s photo contest on its Facebook page. Salem Five, with a location on Bay Road in Hamilton, is calling its contest “We Love It Here!” The top prize is a trip to “The Nantucket” hotel on Nantucket.

Anyone (not just parents) can sign-up to help in this fundraising effort to provide cultural and environmental programs, educational materials, and additional financial support to the school. In Wenham, the Buker School is registered with the Stop & Shop A-Plus program. When you sign-up, you will still earn your gas points and receive in-store discounts and the your local school will benefit too. Thank you for signing up and lending your support.
