Family-Owned Dry Cleaners to Open in Empty Hamilton Storefront

Sarni Cleaners plans to start an expansion north of Boston with a new location along Route 1A in downtown Hamilton.

A third generation family-owned dry-cleaning business in Boston is looking to expand northward – and one of its first stops is in Hamilton.

Sarni Cleaners plans to open its 10th location on Bay Road next to next week.

Company President Ken Sarni said it was mostly happenstance that he came across the new location in Hamilton. Sarni is an assistant coach for the Lynnfield High School boys’ lacrosse team – a Cape Ann League opponent of the Generals. The Lynnfield team was headed to for a game in early April when Sarni passed the empty storefront at 176 Bay Road.

“I was on a bus ride with the kids going through town when I saw it,” Sarni said. He jotted down the phone number from the sign and about two months later the new location will open.

The company has seven locations in various Boston neighborhoods, including Back Bay, North End and West End. There’s also and Everett and Sarni says he it looking to add more locations north of Boston.

“We’re still looking,” Sarni said.

Three new employees were hired for the Hamilton location – a seamstress and two people to work at the counter.

Sarni said he expects to open on Wednesday, June 6, with a weeklong grand opening celebration starting on Monday, June 11 with free coffee and donuts.

The hours of the new location will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and closed on Sunday. The company will also offer free pickup and delivery.

Sarni said his company – which was started by his grandfather in 1929 – in actively involved in the community surrounding its other locations and expects the same in Hamilton.

“We want to be good neighbors and part of the community,” Sarni said, noting the company’s donations of gift certificates and ongoing support of school programs.
