Chimney Fire Stopped After Spreading To Walls

Nobody was injured in a partition fire at a Hamilton home on Tuesday morning.

Homeowner Tom Burke said he called the fire department to his home at 114 Linden St. just before 8 a.m. when he and his wife smelled smoke.

Fire Chief Phil Stevens was the first to arrive, he said, and firefighters opened up the back if the house near the chimney to get at the fire.

Burke, his wife and two dogs all got out safely.

The fire closed a section of Linden Street between Willow and Elliott streets for about an hour.

Deputy Fire Chief Kirby Brand said it was a chimney fire that extended to the walls of the home, where it was stopped.

A Wenham Fire Department crew assisted Hamilton firefighters. The fire was just a few doors up the street from the town line.
