HBO Shooting Mini-Series in Hamilton

Hollywood has returned to Hamilton this week, shooting scenes for a miniseries based on the novel "Olive Kitteridge."

HBO crews are in Hamilton this week to shoot a miniseries produced by Tom Hanks.

The shooting has been happening inside Bradley Palmer State Park in Topsfield and Hamilton.

The miniseries "Olive Kitteridge" will be a four-part drama starring Frances McDormand in the title role and Richard Jenkins as Olive’s husband, Henry Kitteridge, according to a synopsis from the Massachusetts Film Office.

It is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Elizabeth Strout. The screenplay was written by Jane Anderson

"Olive Kitteridge tells the alternately poignantly sweet, acerbically funny, and devastatingly tragic story of a seemingly placid New England town wrought with illicit affairs, crime and tragedy, told through the lens of Olive, whose wicked wit and harsh demeanor mask a warm but troubled heart and a staunch moral center," according to the Film Office's synopsis.

It was not clear which scenes were being shot at Bradley Palmer State Park.

There have been many signs pointing crews up Asbury Street to the park entrance. Those signs read "crosby," referring to the fictitious Maine towns where the miniseries is set.

The shooting was happening out of sight from the public. A spokesman for the state Department of Conservation and Recreation, that operates the park, had few details about the shooting. An HBO spokeswoman, Karen Jones, could not be reached for comment.

“We welcome HBO and Playtone to Massachusetts” said Lisa Strout, Director of the Massachusetts Film Office in an earlier announcement that the shooting was coming to the area. Scenes for the miniseries have also been shot this week on Main Street in Gloucester, according to the Gloucester Daily Times. The set in Hamilton and Topsfield has been marked as "set #2."

Other scenes have been shot during recent weeks in Beverly, Ipswich and Rockport on the North Shore.

This is HBO’s second recent production in Massachusetts. “Clear History,” with Larry David, Jon Hamm and Kate Hudson, filmed on the North Shore in 2012.
