Dense fog will drop visibility to under a quarter mile on Thursday night, warns the National Weather Service.
A dense fog advisory was issued at 7:01 p.m. on Thursday for much of eastern Massachusetts, including the North Shore, plus parts of New Hampshire and Rhode Island. The advisory runs until 3 a.m. on Friday.
“Visibility will be at or below one-quarter mile through the first part of the night,” the weather service said in its advisory. “The fog will linger until showers and a wind shift are able to stir the air sufficiently.”
The dense fog could make driving hazardous, the weather service said.
“Motorists are advised to slow down as objects on and near roadways will be seen only at close range,” the advisory stated.
