Scorching Temps and High Humidity Prompts Heat Advisory Wednesday

A heat advisory has been issued for Wednesday because of the possibility of a heat index above 100 degrees.

Summer is not over. That will become reality on Wednesday as the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Wednesday afternoon because heat index values are expected to rise to 104 degrees.

The heat advisory was issued at about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday and runs from 1-6 p.m. on Wednesday.

The advisory is in effect for all of eastern Massachusetts, including Hamilton and Wenham.

The heat index above 100 will be a combination of temperatures in the mid-90s and dewpoints in the lower 70s, meaning the air will be very humid in addition to very hot.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible,” the weather service said in its statement.

The weather service recommends on Monday that people avoid prolonged work in the sun or in poorly ventilated areas, drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioning, stay out of the sun and check in on relatives and neighbors.
