Rainfall Up to An Inch an Hour Could Cause Friday Evening Flooding

A flash flood watch is in effect for Hamilton and Wenham through 9 p.m. on Friday.

There’s a possibility of flooding on Friday afternoon and evening with heavy rain that is moving across the area.

A flash flood watch was issued at about 11:30 a.m. on Friday and runs through 9 p.m. The flash flood watch had been in effect for parts of central and western Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire since early Friday morning but just before noon was expanded to include the North Shore, including Hamilton and Wenham.

Widespread rain with embedded heavier showers and thunderstorms will impact the region into tonight,” the weather service said as it issued the flood watch, meaning that conditions will exist where there is a possibility of flooding. “Flash flooding will be a distinct possibility as some of the showers and storms may produce one-hour rainfall amounts in excess of 1 inch; Storm total rainfall amounts will average between 1 and 3 inches, with localized amounts reaching up to 4 inches.”
