Motorcyclist was Living Life with No Regrets

The man who was killed in Thursday's motorcycle crash in Wenham was the "heart and engine" of the North Andover Rotary Club and was involved in many other community groups.

The man killed in a head-on crash on Route 1A in Wenham on Thursday was the “heart and engine” of the North Andover Rotary Club and had recently launched calendar sales modeled after the Hamilton-Wenham Rotary Club’s calendar.

Steven Daly, 61, of North Andover was killed Thursday afternoon when his motorcycle collided head-on with a lumber delivery truck in Wenham.

Daly also had a love of singing and acting and was involved in the local theater company “Acting Out.”

Susan Rochwarg, president of the North Andover Rotary Club, said Daly was one of the founding members of the “small but mighty club” in 2002. Since then, he had became a "go-to" member for everything from his effort to raise money to help victims of the Haiti earthquake to leading the morning Rotary meetings in song, often "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning."

“He was an amazing person,” Rochwarg said. “He was involved in so much.”

In the 1980s, Daly was a teacher at Andover High School and most recently was working as a sales manager for GGI International.

He is survived by a wife, a daughter and two sons.

Last year, Daly worked to create a North Andover calendar that the Rotary would sell as a fundraiser. Rochwarg said he modeled the idea after the Hamilton-Wenham Rotary’s calendar, she said. This year, he included the North Andover Music Association, sharing $5 from the sales with the local group.

Rochwarg said she had never talked to Daly about motorcycling, but said he was always up for an adventure and on Thursday was “out on an adventure, living life like he wanted to live it – with no regrets,” she said,. He was riding southbound on Route 1A with a longtime friend when the crash occurred.
