Five Things to Know: Learn How to Appreciate Graveyards

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

It is Thursday, July 18. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 

1. Heat: A heat advisory is in effect on Thursday, with temperatures forecasted to get into the 90s. There will be increasing clouds during the day.

2. Pippin: Several performances of “Pippin” begin Thursday at Governor’s Academy in Byfield. Some of the performances include Carly Comparato of Hamilton and Emme Morales of Wenham. Showtimes for the cast that includes Comparato and Morales are Friday and Sunday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. There are also shows on Thursday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

3. Graveyard: Cemeteries have art, history and symbolism. Adults and teeangers will get a greater appreciation for graveyard after this program, presented by “The Gravestone Girls” at 7 p.m. at Hamilton-Wenham Library. It is free and open to the public.

4. Unemployment: The state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development will announce Thursday the latest state unemployment numbers for June. In May, it was 6.8 percent, up .5 percent over a month earlier. The local, community-by-community data will come later this month.

5. Dinner: Green Meadows Farms plays host to a Farm-to-Table Harvest Dinner on Thursday evening. The entre is buttermilk fried chicken with three dipping sauces along with apricot couscous and grilled vegetables. The dinner also includes an appetizer, salad and desert. It starts at 6 p.m.
