Damaging Winds, Flooding Possible in Pre-Thanksgiving Storm

A wind advisory and flood watch has been issued for Wednesday.

Weather forecasters are warning that strong winds on Wednesday could down trees and knock out power – the same warning that was issued just three days earlier.

On Wednesday, unlike Sunday when several hundred homes in Hamilton and Wenham lost power, there will also be heavy rain.

A flood advisory has been issued through 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

The wind advisory is in effect only for Wednesday morning, when the National Weather said that southeast wind will blow at just 10-20 miles per hour – but will gust to 50 mph.

Those gusts will be strong enough to knock down tree limbs and branches and could cause some power outages. It may also be tough to drive “high-profile vehicles.”

A flood watch has also been issued, meaning that forecasters want residents to be on the lookout for the possibility of flooding.

Rainfall amounts are expected to be between 1.5 to 2.5 inches, with the possibility of up to 3.5 inches of rain.

“Widespread urban and poor drainage flooding is expected along with the risk of smaller rivers, streams and creeks overflowing their banks,” the weather service said.
