Patton Pool Update: January 29, 2014

The Joint Recreation Committee met again Monday and was presented with three options for the previously distributed Plan 3, the plan with zero entry.

Images are attached. The first is of all three options for Plan 3 and the second is the option chosen by the committee (the middle one in image #1). The third image is the Bath House as originally proposed at the Hamilton Special Town Meeting.

The BLACK portion on the plans represents Plan 1B (previously distributed). It is the plan WITHOUT zero entry.

The RED portion represents the “add on” of a zero entry portion (Plan 3)

Please note the bather load capacity is now 21% greater than was stated at the last meeting because the load amount presented previously was incorrect and was based upon an assumption not permitted by code…that the number of bathers could be limited at the entry to the pool.

Bather load, therefore, has gone from 129 (the current pool) to 274 (the incorrect calculation) to 333 for the pool plan WITH zero entry. It requires 9 toilets, 9 showers and 6 sinks. (see explanation below)

For a pool without zero-entry, the bather load has gone from 129 (the current pool) to 209 (the incorrect calculation) to approximately 230 (the exact amount was not available).

Each plan has different bathhouse requirements.

The numbers for the plan without zero entry were not available.

The next step is for Weston and Sampson to prepare estimates for the plan with and without zero entry.

When the BATH HOUSE requirements are referred to in relation to the SIZE of the pool(s), that number is PER GENDER.

For example, when Weston and Sampson made their presentation at the Hamilton Special Town Meeting (STM) their plan called for 11 Water Closets, 11 Showers, and 7 Wash Basins.

The Bath House plan they displayed at the STM is attached below.

Please note, therefore, that the ACTUAL NUMBERS were: 22 Water Closets, 22 Showers, and 14 Wash Basins.

So for the current plan just approved by the Recreation Committee, which shows Toilets: 9, Showers: 9, and Sinks: 6…Please double the number for the actual count.

The pool plan the Recreational Committee favors is not very different from the plan presented at the Special Town Meeting. This should come as no surprise considering the fact that following the STM the committee unanimously agreed that they still favored the plan which was not approved at Town Meeting.
