NOTABLE QUOTES FROM THE 6/16/14 SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING DURING A DISCUSSION OF FUNDING A STUDY TO LOOK INTO THE FEASIBILITY OF ONE OR MORE TURF FIELDS FOR HAMILTON/WENHAM:

Scott Maddern:
"GALE ASSOCIATES is a qualified company.  They have done this kind of stuff before. The (Turf Field) working group looked at what they had to say and thought very highly of what was there."

Bill Dery (to Sean Timmons):
"You threw out GALE in favor of Westin & Sampson for the pool in Hamilton.  Why are you going back to GALE now?"

Sean Timmons (replying to Bill Dery):
"I'm not sure that's relevant."

Bill Dery (in reply):
"If you want money to go buy something from GALE, it's certainly relevant."NOTE: On the POOL ISSUE, Gale Associates had been hired and submitted a report that estimated the replacement cost of the pool at $1.1 million.  Despite that, at the Hamilton fall Special Town Meeting, voters were asked to approve $2.5 million for a pool…with assurances that bids would come in much lower.  GALE ASSOCIATES' estimate was ignored in favor of an estimate from Westin & Sampson. The warrant article failed to pass thanks to the efforts of EiE and others.  When the bids from Requests For Proposals (RFPs) finally did come in, they were in excess of $3.1 million.
The question naturally arises (as was asked by Bill Dery), WHY would the Recreation Committee request ANOTHER study and estimate of costs from GALE ASSOCIATES when they, and the Hamilton Board of Selectmen, chose to ignore and criticize the last report GALE submitted for the same kind of study?
