Gordon-Conwell to Confer 298 Degrees at May 10 Commencement

Hamilton, MA—The Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary Board of Trustees will confer 251 master’s degrees and 47 Doctor of Ministry degrees during commencement exercises at 10:00 a.m., May 10, in the Bennett Center of Gordon College. The ceremonies will also include the graduating students from the Center for Urban Ministerial Education (CUME), the Boston campus of Gordon-Conwell. On May 17, an additional 5 master’s degrees will be conferred during commencement exercises at the seminary’s Jacksonville, FL, campus, and 72 master’s degrees and 12 doctoral degrees will be conferred at the seminary’s Charlotte, N.C., campus.

The commencement speaker will be Bishop Claude R. Alexander, Jr. As Senior Pastor of The Park Ministries (formerly University Park Baptist Church) since 1990, Bishop Alexander has overseen the rapid growth of the 96-year-old congregation from fewer than 600 members to over 9,000. He is ranked among the 75 most influential persons in Charlotte by Charlotte magazine. Bishop Alexander currently serves as the co-chair of the Community Building Initiative for the Foundation for the Carolinas, on the Board of Directors of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of Trustees at Gordon-Conwell.

A baccalaureate service will be held at 8:00 p.m., May 9, in the A. J. Gordon Memorial Chapel at Gordon College. The speaker will be Dr. Jim Singleton, Jr., Associate Professor of Pastoral Leadership and Evangelism at Gordon-Conwell. Dr. Singleton has pastored churches in Texas, Washington and Colorado, and has taught at several seminaries around the world, including ones in Moscow and Zambia.
