Extending Early Childhood Education--start here

At NSUW, we have loved hearing more this week about the importance of early childhood education. Parents of inquisitive toddlers will not be surprised to learn that 85% of brain development happens before a child turns five years old. Adults crave the curiosity and creativity that comes so naturally to children.

It is unfortunate when discussions about early childhood education end in the realm of politics and government, because each of us has the ability to extend valuable early childhood education to children right here in our own community. The North Shore United Way does this by investing the support of its donors in local causes like Beverly Children’s Learning Center, the North Shore Y, and Pathways for Children, organizations who provide quality, affordable education and care.

In addition to financial support, they offer opportunities to roll up your sleeves and get involved. Here are three fabulous opportunities listed on the North Shore Volunteer Hub, a new website offered by the North Shore United Way that is connecting people with meaningful opportunities to volunteer.

Love reading? You can share your love of books by becoming a Guest Reader in the Children's Enrichment Center at the Y in Beverly, Gloucester, Ipswich, Marblehead, or Salem. (More)

Miss the smell of glue and construction paper? You can help with special activities and spend time with children as a Classroom Volunteer at Beverly Children’s Learning Center. (More)

A meaningful volunteer opportunity awaits you. The foundation is a strong match between your skills, and interests and the needs that exist in our community. To get started, I want to invite you to visit these volunteer opportunities on the North Shore Volunteer Hub. From there you can discover other needs in our community and respond to one that is a great fit for you.

Need some help? The North Shore United Way offers the last in its series of Open Houses called Resolved to Care this Friday. From noon to 5:00pm, NSUW is available to help you sign on to the site and find a volunteer opportunity you will love. Details here.
