Polls Open All Day Thursday in Hamilton

A daily look at five things to know to get the day started from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

It is Thursday, Nov. 21. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham:

1. Warmer: The sun is forecasted to return to the sky, with slightly warmer temperatures. The high temperature is expected to get into the upper 40s, with calm winds.

2. Election: The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Winthrop Elementary School in Hamilton for a two question ballot vote for Hamilton voters. Voters will be asked whether they want to approve a Proposition 2-1/2 debt exclusion override for a total of $3.1 million worth of work at two elementary schools. One question will be in regard to a boiler replacement at Buker Elementary School and the other about heating system improvements and window replacements at Winthrop. The vote will be held in Wenham on Dec. 12.

3. Car Collection: The car collection of Wenham residents Andrea and Ralph Caruso will be in display on Thursday night to benefit the North Shore United Way. The event, Classics & Cocktails II, will be catered by Timothy S. Hopkins Catering and an auction will include everything from a weekend on the town in Boston to a ski week at Sugarloaf. Tickets are $100 per person and available online at www.nsuw.org or by calling 978-922-3966.

4. EZ Pass: Starting in 2014, there will be no toll collectors on the Tobin Bridge – the connection between the North Shore and Boston. Either drivers will have to have an EZ Pass transponder or a camera will take a photo of your license plate and send you a bill. One benefit to have a transponder is that the toll will be $2.50, versus $3 if you get a bill mailed to you. If you still don’t have a transponder and regularly travel Route 1, starting Thursday you can stop in at the Square One Mall in Saugus and grab a free transponder at the EZPass service center, on the upper level of the mall near Macy’s.
