New Playground's Official Grand Opening is Thursday Night

A daily look at five things to know to get the day started from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

It is Thursday, Aug. 29. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham:

1. Clouds: The clouds are forecasted to return to the sky on Thursday after an incredibly perfect day on Wednesday. There’s a chance of a shower in the morning as some fog may be around, and by the afternoon clouds will still linger with a temperature around 70 degrees. It will be humid and the sun may peek through.

2. Playground: The grand opening is Thursday evening for the new playground at Patton Park in Hamilton. Construction and assembly has lasted for most of the summer, but it is now complete and children have already begun to enjoy the playground. The official grand opening is planned for 5-7 p.m. Music and pizza will be part of the festivities and ice cream will be for sale.

3. Walgreens: The latest addition to the commercial strip along Route 1A in neighboring North Beverly is a Walgreens store. There’s already a store in downtown Beverly, built more than a decade ago on the spot where the Washington-Beadle school was once located. The newest location is at the corner of Conant and Dodge streets, diagonally across from CVS. The store is hosting a sneak preview on Thursday evening before it opens for the first time on Friday.

4. Technology Tax: The newly imposed technology tax continues to stir concern, and the state House of Representatives and Senate Republican Caucus has a Technology Tax Business Roundtable scheduled for locations all across the state. The closest the tour get to the two towns is Wakefield on Thursday. It is scheduled to happen at Wakefield Savings Bank at 351 Main St. in Wakefield from 3-4 p.m. Both state Sen. Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester) and state Rep. Brad Hill, (R-Ipswich), who represents Hamilton and Wenham will be taking part.

5. Dance: The school year has begun and that means middle school dances are underway again at the Community House. Sixth graders get a chance of their own to “check it out” on Thursday night. The cost is $5 per students, who must also be pre-enrolled in the Community House’s middle school programs. There will be concessions plus the Community House’s foosball and pool table will be available plus Wii and Xbox.
