Hamilton Artist Featured in Exhibit Opening Thursday Night

A daily look at five things to know to get the day started from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

It is Thursday, Dec. 19. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham:

1. Warmer: The temperature is expected to get solidly above freezing today with a cloudy start then the sun will come out. The high temperature will be in the high 30s with a southwest wind at 9-15 miles per hour.

2. Low Vision: Bill Kilroy of Freedom Scientific will be the guest at Thursday’s meeting of the Hamilton-Wenham Low Vision Group at the Hamilton Council on Aging. The group is designed to “combine business and pleasure” by offering educational material, guest speakers and trips. Kilroy will show the company’s assistive technology products for people who are blind or have low vision. The meeting is at 12:30 p.m.

3. Unemployment: The statewide unemployment figures for November will be released on Thursday. We’ll see how it compares to the 6.8 percent unemployment rate in October, which was down 0.1 percent over the month earlier. Compared to a year earlier, the rate was up 0.5 percent from the October 2012 rate of 6.3 percent.

4. Disney: Just before the holiday vacation from school, the newest Disney on Ice show opens in Boston on Thursday night. The show, titled “Passport to Adventure,” is at Agganis Arena at Boston University and runs through Dec. 29.

5. Gallery: The large-scale acrylic painting of Hamilton resident Ben MacAdam will be featured at the Centennial Gallery, located at The Musculoskeletal Center at Centennial Drive in Peabody. The opening reception for the exhibit, which also features oil paintings from Lisa Courtney of Amesbury, is on Thursday night from 7-9 p.m. The work will be on display until Jan. 4 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.
