Gabe's Run to Return for Sixth Year

A daily look at five things to know to get the day started from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

It is Wednesday, Nov. 27. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham:

1. Wild: Wednesday is forecasted to be a wild day of weather, with heavy rain and strong winds. The temperature will be in the 50s all day and a total of 1-2 inches of rain is expected to fall over the course of the day, with wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour.

2. School: Students get out of school early on Wednesday on the day before Thanksgiving. While it is typically an early release day on Wednesdays, it is a bit earlier this week. Elementary schools get out at 11:15 a.m. and the Miles River Elementary School and Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School at 12:05 p.m.

3. Lawyer: Senior citizens at the Hamilton Council of Aging will be able to get legal advice on Wednesday from attorney Matt Karr, who will be offering a law clinic at 11:45 a.m. at the Hamilton Senior Center, in front of the public safety building on Bay Road.

4. Hanukkah: The eight day long Jewish holiday Hanukkah starts at sundown on Wednesday evening at sundown. Also known as the festival of lights, it marks the rededication of the holy Temple in Jerusalem following the Jewish victory over the Syrian-Greeks in 165 B.C.

5. Run: Don’t forget about the “Day After Thanksgiving Race” coming up on Friday – Gabe’s Run. The 5K run, which is a fundraiser for the Gabriel Pacione Memorial Scholarship, gets started with registration at Patton Park at 7:30 a.m. The women’s race starts at 9 a.m., men at 9:45 a.m. and the one-mile fun run at 10:30 a.m. Registration is $25 for the 5K and $15 for the fun run. The race is named for Pacione, a 2008 Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School graduate who was killed in a car crash before heading off to Dartmouth College. He was a cross-country and track star that had a “positive spirit and passion for running.”
