Final Weekend of the Season for Farmstand

A daily look at five things to know to get the day started from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

It is Friday, Dec. 19. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham:

1. 40s: The temperature will get into the 40s on Friday for the first time in a while, with a high temperature expected in the mid to upper-40s. It will be cloudy with a light south wind.

2. Toys: State Senator Bruce Tarr’s Annual North Shore Holiday Toy Drive wraps up on Friday. It is the final day to drop off a toy donation at any of the collection locations, including Wenham Museum, First Ipswich Bank and Dawson’s Hardware. It is the 18th straight year that the Republican from Gloucester, who represents Hamilton and Wenham, has held the toy drive along with North Shore 104.9 radio.

3. Grades: The second quarter grades for Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School students will be updated by Friday, the last day of school before the holiday break, in Aspen, the online grade system. Final quarter two grades will be published on Jan. 31.

4. Solstice: Saturday is Dec. 21, the winter solstice and the shortest day of the year that marks the start of winter. There will be just 9 hours and 32 minutes of sunlight and after Saturday, each day will gradually get longer until June 21. Officially, winter will start at 12:11 p.m. on Saturday.

5. Green Meadows: This weekend marks the end of the season for Green Meadows Farm in Hamilton. The farmstand closes on Monday at 2 p.m. for the season and will reopen again in the spring.
