Both Boys and Girls Sign Up for Scouts Thursday

A daily look at five things to know to get the day started from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

It is Thursday, Sept. 12. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham:

1. Storms: The two-day heat wave is expected to come to an end on Thursday with the possibility for showers and thunderstorms, which could come with heavy rain and strong wind. The sky will be sunny for most of the day with temperatures getting into the upper 80s with a south wind.

2. Scouts: If your child plans to be a Scout this year – either a Boy Scout or Girl Scout – sign-ups are Thursday evening. Sign-ups for Hamilton Cub Scout Pack 35 will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Winthrop Elementary School. It is open for first through fifth graders or those age 7-10 years old. For girls, Girl Scout sign-ups are at Hamilton-Wenham Library on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

3. License Plates: We’ll find out the names of the newest owner of low number license plates on Thursday evening. The state Registry of Motor Vehicles annual lottery to giveaway the available low number license plates will be held on Dan Rea’s “Nightside” program on WBZ-AM 1030. The lottery will run from 8-10 p.m., where 140 plates such as Z7, 740 and 6868 will be awarded. Winners will have until Dec. 31 to register their car with the new plate or else it will automatically be forfeited.

4. Choir: The first of two tryouts for the Honors Youth Choir of Chorus North Shore will be held on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on High Street in Rockport. The second tryout is next Thursday, Sept. 19 at 3:30 p.m. at Ascension Memorial Church on County Street in Ipswich. Members of the chorus range from 10-years-old to high school and are selected at the auditions. The chorus is free and sponsored by Chorus North Shore.
