Middle and High Schools to be Closed Again on Thursday, Elementaries Remain Open
The middle and high school will be closed on Thursday so snow removal can continue, while the elementary schools will be open for the first full day of school since last Monday.
Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School and Miles River Middle School will be closed for the seventh straight school day on Thursday.
Assistant School Superintendent Peter Gray said in a ConnectEd phone and e-mail message on Wednesday afternoon that the high school roof is 90 percent clear but that snow still needs to be removed from the exits.
At the middle school, Gray said 75 percent of the roof has been cleared of snow.
“We have now hired a third work crew who will help complete the snow removal and I have been promised that both schools will be ready to open on Friday, February 11, 2011,” Gray said in the message.
On Wednesday, school officials posted a survey on the Internet trying to gauge the impact to students and families of holding makeup school days during either February of April vacation.
The deadline to complete the survey is 9 a.m. on Thursday.
On Thursday night, the School Committee is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. at Buker Elementary School to “review the snow removal process and the school calendar.”
