Last Weekend Before Christmas Serves Up Plenty of Holiday Offerings
Our annual weekend activity guide includes several Christmas and holiday activities plus a reminder that high school students athletes are in action again in winter sports.
It's the final weekend before Christmas so what else can we recommend for the weekend? Get in your final shopping.
On Black Friday we gave you several tips to do your Christmas and holiday shopping locally. Well, those tips are still god today – eight days before Christmas.
And, if you're done with your shopping but still want to stay in the holiday spirit then head over to the Wenham Museum.
The museum has a spectacular gingerbread house village on display, with a model train winding it way between the houses. The homes are all part of a contest and museum visitors get to decide the winner. Voting ends on Saturday.
If you're headed to the museum to check out the gingerbread houses and everything else it offers, don't miss the Snow Train to Bakersville in the lobby – another great seasonal delight.
Continuing with the theme that this weekend is the last chance to get in Christmas-related activities before next Saturday, you'll want to check out the Christmas concert at Christ Church at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. It sounds like a unique mix of performers headlined by "Maeve," which is described as a three-piece band who play "acoustic pop with Gospel overtones." Proceeds from the concert benefit the Refugee Immigration Ministry.
Lastly for Christmas activities there's caroling at Asbury Grove. It's planned to start at 6 p.m. at the main gate of the Methodist community, near the corner of Pleasant Avenue, Asbury Street and Highland Street.
We'd be remiss if we didn't remind you that the winter sports season at the high school is in full swing.
The boys basketball team came up with a big win over Lynnfield to open the season and the girls' lost a squeaker at home. On Friday night the girls are at home again against Ipswich, while the boys make a quick 4 mile trip up Route 1A to take on the Tigers.
