The Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School girls’ cross-country team notched a third place finish against top competition in Rhode Island this past weekend.
Cross-Country:
Girls: Third
Meg Blatchford was 11th at 20:08 to lead the Generals to a third place finish out of 10 teams in the Championship race at the Ocean State Cross Country Invitational in Warwick, R.I. on Saturday. Other scorers for the Generals included Emily Weigand (14, 20:12), Kerry Phelan (18, 20:22), Emily Horgan (19, 20:26), Sarah Duffy (26, 21:28) and Emily Senning (52, 22:13).
The girls next face Amesbury and Ipswich in Ipswich on Tuesday afternoon.
Boys: 17th
The boys’ cross-country team was 17th out of 42 teams in the varsity race at the Ocean State Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
Dan von Staats was the top Generals finisher in 40th at 18:07. Other scorers for Hamilton-Wenham included Matt Gillis (49, 18:20), Kevin Rutigliano, (135, 19:54), Alex MacDonald (148, 20:01), John Sexton (165, 20:15), Peter Durgin (250, 22:15) and Alex Schlecht (255, 22:29).
Two varsity runners also ran in the freshman race, where Michael Allara was 5th in the 4K race at 14:16 and Jack Blatchford was 11th at 14:38 to lead the team to a 6th place finish out of 19 teams. One varsity runner also ran in the JV race - Lucas cruz Nascime finished in 29th at 19:45.
The team runs again on Tuesday afternoon in Ipswich also against Amesbury.
Volleyball:
Peabody, 3; Hamilton-Wenham, 0.
Peabody swept the Hamilton-Wenham girls volleyball team (1-6) in Hamilton on Monday afternoon. The game scores were 25-15, 25-19 and 25-20.
The team’s next game is Friday afternoon at Salem High School.
