Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 7

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Monday, March 7. Here are five things you need to know:

1. Rain: A flood watch extends into Monday morning, which means that the combination of rain and melting snow has increased the chance of flooding. While some of the most serious concerns aren’t nearby, it still is worth keeping an eye on the streams, rivers and swamps nearby.

2. Library: A delightful little essay by Edie Clark in the most recent edition  of Yankee Magazine reminded us about the delightfulness of the Hamilton-Wenham library. And after last week’s “Patch Picks” column highlighted top book picks from five librarians, one person told us that they were going to print it out and bring it to their next book club meeting.

3. Basketball: It’s was a tough loss for the No. 1 seed boys basketball Generals on Friday night, who fell to Pentucket in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

4. Rugged Bear: While the whole chain of Rugged Bear children’s clothing stores is going out of business and liquidating, the nearby store in North Beverly will just drop the Rugged Bear name and stay open as a kids clothing store.

5. Selectmen: The Hamilton Board of Selectmen meet on Monday night with a full agenda.
