Today is Wednesday, Feb. 1. Here are five things you need to know:
1. Warm: February arrives with temperatures – strangely - forecasted to get well into the 50s on Wednesday. There’s also a chance of rain showers and there will be some wind gusts at times.
2. Poetry: Hamilton-Wenham Library’s Second Annual Poetry Contest Kicks off on Wednesday for students in grades 6 to 12. The deadline to enter in April 30 and winners will be announced in May. Teenagers may enter up to three poems each, and there are some other important rules.
3. Gas: Three gas stations in Hamilton and Wenham are selling gas for almost the same price on Tuesday. G & M Motors had a gallon of regular for $3.48 while downtown at Hamilton Convenience and Oliver Gulf, a gallon is $3.49. At Fallon’s, a gallon of gas was selling for $3.65 per gallon.
4. College: Parents and high school students can get all their questions answered and get some great tips about applying to college and finding the right school from Laine Averback of College Concierge on Wednesday night. The free seminar starts at 6:30 p.m. at Hamilton-Wenham Library.
5. Patton Land: The Patton Family Gift Advisory Committee meets on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at Hamilton Town Hall with seven of the committee’s ten members that will come up with a use for the land, which is planned to be donated to the town of Hamilton. Those members were named on Monday and are meeting for the first time to take tabs of the skills and expertise of the committee members before the Board of Selectmen name the final three at-large community members on Monday night.
