Elementary Schools to Reopen Wednesday, High School and Middle School to Follow

School officials said that the three Hamilton-Wenham elementary schools will reopen on Wednesday after snow removal from the roof was completed on Tuesday.

The snow on the roofs has been completely cleared from the three Hamilton-Wenham elementary schools, which will all reopen on Wednesday, school officials announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Assistant Superintendent Peter Gray made the announcement in a ConnectEd phone and e-mail message sent at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday to say Buker, Cutler and Winthrop elementary schools will be open on Wednesday.

“The snow has been cleared and the building inspector has given permission to reopen these schools,” Gray said in the message.

Now, workers will move to the high school and middle school complex and continue removing snow from the roof there. Both schools will be closed on Wednesday.

Gray said that he plans to have the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School open on Thursday and Miles River Middle School on Friday.

Even though the two schools are connected, Gray said in an interview on Tuesday that the building inspector has told the school district that one school can be opened before the other.

With the reopening of all the schools now in sight, Gray said school officials will now shift their focus to deciding how to make up some of the missed day.

He said the options would be discussed at the School Committee meeting on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Buker Elementary School multipurpose room.

School and town officials will also attend the meeting to present “a recap of the events that occurred over the last week.”
