The town of Wenham is offering residents two means of disposing of Christmas trees during the 2010 holiday season. These options are as follow:
1. Trash Pickup: Residents can place Christmas trees out with their trash, on their regular trash collection dates, during the weeks of Dec. 27 and Jan. 3. All discarded trees will be collected Hiltz Disposal.
2. Tree Drop-off: The Wenham Department of Public Works will establish three drop off locations throughout town where residents can deliver and dispose of Christmas trees. These location are:
a. West Wenham Playground parking lot on Topsfield Road (Route 97)
b. Pingree Park parking lot on Main Street (Route 1A)
c. Wenham Department of Public Works yard at 91 Grapevine Road
Christmas trees can be dropped off at these three locations for the two weeks between Dec. 26, 2010 and Jan. 9, 2011. All trees will be ground up and recycled for horticultural use.
It should be noted that the town encourages all residents to take advantage of the tree drop-off options listed in No. 2 above. The Hiltz collection alternative, noted in No. 1 above, requires the town to pay for both the collection and disposal costs.
Option No. 2 offers the greatest cost savings to the town and is a more environmentally sensitive alternative.
