Mandatory Water Conservation in Effect in Wenham

  • May 2, 2011

Effective May 1, in accordance with the Water Use Restriction By-law and in compliance with Wenham’s withdrawal permit issued by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, no sprinklers are allowed between the hours of 9 a.m  and 5 p.m in Wenham. Hand watering is allowed.

The mandatory water conservation is in effect from May 1 to Sept. 30 and includes private wells. The Wenham Water Department would like to thank all residents for their understanding and cooperation.

Violators of the mandatory water conservation order shall be subject to fines of up to $100 for each offense, per Chapter XXI of the Town of Wenham Bylaws.

TIME TO TRAIN YOUR LAWN - If you DON'T water your lawn yet, the roots will go deeper so that they can survive dry spells without constant watering. The WORST WAY to water a lawn is to water too early in the season, or too lightly and often. Instead, wait until the lawn shows signs of stress, and then water deeply (at least an inch of water), but don’t water again for a least another week.
